Restaurants:

  • Pearl Dive Oyster Palace
  • Garrison (near Capitol Hill, like Chez Panisse in Berkeley, CA)
  • Jaleo (José Andrés’ Spanish)
  • Zaytinay (José Andrés’ Mediterranean – mezze plates – across from the Nat’l Portrait Gallery)
  • Oyamel (José Andrés’ Mexican)
  • The Partisan (has a butcher next door which is part of it, all about small plates to share, lots of meat)
  • BOSS Shepherds (southern, fabulous)
  • Founding Father’s Restaurant (North Dakota Farmers, very fun)

Bakeries:

  • Bread Furst – Van Ness neighborhood on Connecticut, NW. Communal table, breakfast and lunch

Dessert:

  • Dolcezza (best gelato ever)

To Try:

  • Ris Restaurant (owned by a Les Dames, WDC)
  • Restaurant Nora (first certified organic restaurant in nation)
  • Black Pearl Tarts
  • The Dabney – 202-450-1015 (very farm to table, small)
  • Convivial
  • Masseria
  • Red Hen (looks a bit fussy, but well known)
  • Cashion’s Eat Place (Adams Morgan)
  • Fiola Mare (Georgetown)
  • Jack Rose Dining Salon (Downtown)

Have Tried and Don’t Recommend:

  • Le Diplomat (French – nice ambiance and bread, but…)
